WhoIs Martijn Roskam

Hi there,

My name is Martijn Roskam. I live in a small village called Hoogland, That's in the Netherlands. This year i hope to round up my study Automotive Engineering in Arnhem. It is a study that takes 4 years and deals with all kinds of subjects relating automobiles, trucks, motorbikes and everything else with wheels and engines and doesn't roll over rails. About 50 percent of the students that begin at the "Institute of Automotive Engineering" get to do the final year. In the final year you'll get to choose from 2 majors.
  • Designer / tester
  • Technical and commercial engineer

After lots and lots of doubts I chose the last one, together with some extra subjects like technical accident analytics and special vehicles. Looking back on the study i can say that it was a difficult one (specially the complex math and dynamics were hard for me). But I haven't got the diploma in my pocket yet!! I'd also had 2 traineeships. The first at "EurotaxOlyslager", internationally known as EurotaxGlass where i worked on the technical helpdesk for workshops in the Netherlands and Swiss. I also conducted a marketresearch on what was the best way to penetrate the Dutch market with Eurotax Repair Estimate (a program for making damage calculations on cars). My second traineeship was at Reed Business Information, a world-wide publisher for the b2b market. I did all kinds of jobs for "Auto & Motor Techniek" The magazine for everyone that is working in the automotive sector in the Netherlands. But mostly i was busy developing a new internetsite (click here for the old site) for the magazine. The new site is almost ready and I expect it will go "live" in a few months.

At the traineeship at RBI (Reed Business Information) I found out that I was very interested in developing internetsites and -utility's. With the help of E-engineers and all kinds of external bureaus and company's i can make reality of the ideas that are in my head. RBI is was also pleased with me and offered me the chance to stay in the vacation and make some money. After the vacation I'll stay and write my thesis (don't know if that's the right word) at RBI. The thesis will be about another E-utility that I will be developing with others. I'm sorry to say that i can't be specific about my thesis right now, but details will follow in the future!!

The actual reason why I created this blog is to exercise my English since I haven't practiced it since junior high school. After graduating from the "Institute of Automotive Engineering" i would like to get a master's degree at Nyenrode in Breukelen (Netherlands) or Northwood University in Florida (US) in marketing/management.

I hope that I can change my hobby's in profiterable work. So after my master hopefully I end up in some kind of mix between Automotive and E-Business.

Maybe I'll see you again on my blog or maybe I'll meet you in real life!!

PS if you have any tips for improving my English or comments... Please let me know!!!!
