Future or Fiction

"Set in 2015 it charts the history of the Internet, the evolving mediascape and the way news and newspapers were affected by the growth in online news.

It coined the word 'Googlezon' from a future merger of Google and Amazon to form the Google grid, and speaks of news wars with the Times becoming a print only paper for the elite culminating in EPIC Evolving Personalised Information Construct"

For some of you this will be a classic movie which you've already seen a few years ago. Nevertheless I think this movie contains the red line of what the future of media will look like. Let me know if you are convinced or not...

Learning or Working

Since august I’ve been working/writing my thesis for RBI. I must say that the work is still varying and interesting. The new website is "live" since august 21st. At this moment AMT.nl is being fine-tuned by internal specialists in fields like usability, search engine optimization and lead generation. Luckily, I also get involved with this after-development fine tune projects and I learn a lot of it. I'd even had some interviews with potential users.
On the other hand I have the feeling that before the team of specialists arrived my opinion was more appreciated and more often taken for granted than it is now. But then again, they are the specialists and I am just a trainee, so I’ll must learn to live with that.

My work at RBI is not only about web-editing and developing, I am also “hired” because of my study at the institute of automotive engineering. And therefore I’ll get to do all kinds of little jobs to help the editors for the AMT magazine. For these jobs I spend a lot of time behind my desk researching new kinds of automotive equipment or innovations, but I also get to do a lot of “fun” jobs, the better things in life! For example I’ve driven hundreds of kilometers in cars other boys my age can only dream about to ride. I’ve had a photo-session in the new Lexus GS450h, but also did acceleration-, braking- and noise level tests.

In the meantime the chief editor offered me job at RBI when I finish my study. There is a gap of a half year when I finished my study at the institute of automotive engineering till the beginning of next school year. In that half year I can guarantee to work for one or another. When the new school year starts I’ll want to learn something that can make me much more valuable in the job market. In my opinion there are too many people that can do what I can do now, so that makes me expandable :(.

With my hands in my hair I am still desperately searching for a good way to spend my last 2 years learning, whether it is parttime, fulltime or double fulltime, whether it is in the Netherlands, US or whatever, whether it is at a company such as RBI or a private school.

If u have tips or advice please let me know, in the meantime I am trying to write my final thesis which I can’t tell you a lot about at this moment…. Okay just one thing, what I am developing now will hopefully generate lots and lots of user generated content and can be used for a lot of the b2b sites that belongs to RBI.

Hope to see you again on my blogspot,

Martijn
